ASTARTA’s CSR projects: The Clean Environment project
In 2016, ASTARTA started developing household waste sorting culture: the project started in two schools in Vinnytsia region. Nowadays, the Clean Environment project combines 9 educational establishments in Vinnytsia and Zhytomyr regions, where ASTARTA has organized separate waste collection. The start of the project was preceded by training. Lecturers from Ukraine without Garbage NGO explained in detail how to sort household wastes. The project started with the awakening of consciousness: sorting wastes is one of the requirements to build a better future. In addition, the lecturers emphasized that garbage should be regarded as a recyclable material that could be profitable for both schools and communities.
The drivers of change were the children. As part of the project, separate containers for sorting paper, lids, batteries, plastic, glass and metal were installed in schools, and a monthly collection of sorted waste was organized.
In 2019, over 650 students and 200 teachers were involved in the project. The money the schools receive for the waste goes towards the purchase of teaching materials and sports equipment. ASTARTA's Clean Environment project has become an example for all local authorities how to implement waste sorting in their territories.
