Sugar Production

The sugar plants of the company are located in the Poltava, Vinnytsya, and Khmelnytsky regions. During the last years, the annual sugar production was at 250-500kt.

The company actively conducts modernisation programmes and implements long-term energy and resources efficiency programmes.

The competitive advantage of Astarta is the availability of its raw material base – sugar beets grown by the holding’s agricultural farms. By-products of sugar production – molasses and pulp – are also in demand. After the commission of pulp drying and pulp granulation facilities at several plants, the company started to supply almost all pulp (granulated) to foreign markets. Raw pulp is used partly in the cattle farming and partly for processing at Astarta’s bioenergy complex.

The sugar plants of the company are also certified according to seven international management systems: the quality system ISO 9001, the food safety management system (ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000), the environmental management system (ISO 14001), the occupational health and safety management system (ISO 45001). The Novoorzhitskyi, Globynsky and Yareskivsky have certification according to the international standard ISO 50001 “Energy Management Systems”.

The plants also undergo social and environmental audits at the request of consumers to ensure conformity to international standards systems, such as SMETA 4 Pillar and Coca-Cola Supplier Guiding Principles.
