Astarta, with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, funding from the Global Environment Facility, and advisory support from KPMG Ukraine, has completed implementing a pilot Sustainable Procurement project.

‘Our team has successfully completed the pilot project. We have reviewed and tailored the Company’s procurement management system to include sustainability criteria. In particular, we put together a detailed plan for implementing the requirements of Sustainable Procurement per ISO 20400 Sustainable Procurement standards, identified key suppliers, and developed sustainability criteria to conduct their appraisal. An important stage of the project was the risk assessment of suppliers following specific ESG criteria which also allowed us to assess local market readiness for sustainability requirements and identify risks in the Company’s supply chain,’ said Ms Yuliya Bereshchenko, Astarta’s Director of Sustainable Business Development and Investor Relations.

Based on the results of assessing risks and pre-qualification, the Company’s team will continue to actively engage suppliers in implementing sustainability requirements. Work is also underway to develop a Supplier Code and implement changes to corporate standards per recommendations provided. In the future, the Company plans to establish goals for each category of suppliers and continuously assess their qualifications.

Such measures will help the Company to reduce risks and greenhouse gas emissions in the value chain (Scope 3) in line with current and future European standards.
