Sugar production

Sugar production operations include six sugar plants, Four of them are located in Poltava oblast, one in Vinnytsya oblast, and one in Khmelnytsky oblast.
The competitive strength of ASTARTA is its self-sufficiency in sugar beet; significantly reducing its dependence on external beet supplies, which helps to optimise terms, lower the cost of production, and guarantee consistency and a high quality of finished product. Molasses is exported and also used in our cattle farms. Sugar beet pulp is being used in our biomass plant to produce energy and fertilisers for our farms.
The group actively conducts modernisation programs. ASTARTA has been implementing the Energy Efficiency Program to reduce not only natural gas and coal consumption but also the use of limestone and fresh water in sugar production. As a result, the average level of natural gas consumption has significantly decreased in the last five years.
At the same time, ASTARTA pays a lot of attention to the introduction of systems of quality and safety. The Yareskivsky, Zhdanivsnky, Globynsky, and Novoorzhitsky plants has implemented food safety management systems in accordance with the requirements of the FSSC 22000 certification scheme, which is recognised by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) international organisation.
The quality systems of the Globinsky, Kobelyatsky, Zhdanivsnky, and Yareskivsky sugar plants have already obtained DSTU ISO 9001 certificates. The Kobelyatsky, Narkevychsky, and Novoivanivsky sugar plants have implemented food safety management systems in accordance with ISO 22000 standards.
The Narkevychsky, Kobelyatsky, Zhdanivsnky, Yareskivsky, Novoivanivsky, Globinsky, and Novoorzhitsky sugar plants, as well as the company head office, are also certified according to the ISO 14001 international standard for “environmental management system”. In addition, the head office of the group, as well as the Novoorzhitsky and Narkevytsky sugar plants, are certified according to the international standard OHSAS 18001 relating to “System management health and safety”.
In the 2016 sugar season, our Novoorzhitsky sugar plant received certification according to the international standard ISO 50001 “Energy Management Systems”, which is aimed at optimising energy consumption. In 2017, the same certificate was obtained by the Globinsky sugar plant. A number of other sugar plants (Yareskivsky, Narkevytsky, and Zhdanivsnky) periodically undergo social and environmental audits at the request of consumers to ensure conformity to international standards systems, such as SMETA 4 Pillar and Coca-Cola Supplier Guiding Principles.
